“Dark, even ruby-red colour with some depth and youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is fresh with softly full aromas of dark-red cherry and raspberry fruit along with hints of dark plums, unfolding a little dark herb detail and fragrant violet florals. This shows good ripeness and fresh, primary notes. Medium-full bodied, the palate has bright and lively, vibrant flavours of dark cherries and raspberries, entwined with dark herb notes with violet floral elements. The flavours are soft, fulsome and mouthfilling with bright aromatics, and are underlined by grainy tannin extraction providing good structure, grip and line. The wine carries to a concentrated, deep finish of raspberries, cherries and plums. This is a bright and vibrant, youthfully fruity Pinot Noir with dark cherry and raspberry fruit along with herb and floral detail on a palate with good grip and structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 4 years. Phil and Chris Rose were among the earliest winegrowers in Marlborough, planting vines in 1978. Since then, they’ve grown their business to encompass around 285 ha over 9 vineyards and a modern winery plus a busy restaurant, now run by their 5 children and extended family. Wairau River is one of the largest family-owned winegrowing operations in Marlborough, with many vintages of experience behind it.
