Rapaura Springs Reserve Pinot Gris 2020

The Reserve Pinot Gris has inviting nashi pear, apricot and rockmelon aromas, with a hint of spice. Full of fruit character, but not too sweet, this off-dry wine is delightfully drinkable. The flavours linger long after your glass is empty.

5 Stars / 93 Points Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 2021 "Beautifully styled and elegantly expressed, the bouquet shows Nashi pear, apricot, rockmelon and white floral aromas, followed by a smooth palate that’s succulent and fleshy. Delightfully composed with bright fruit intensity, making it fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2023. March 2021."

Perfect weather over flowering in the spring of 2019 produced unprecedented berry numbers. Fortunately, the driest summer on record then suppressed the berry growth. By harvest time, berry size was small to moderate, which has given the wines substantial structure. Late summer brought Marlborough’s trademark cooler nights, that are so important to the aromatic qualities and retention of acidity. The introduction of a nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of COVID-19 coincided with the beginning of the harvest. The vineyard and winery teams moved incredibly fast to adhere to the very strict distancing and hygiene protocols to allow us to continue to operate. After harvesting, the fruit was gently pressed and the juice was floated and clean racked for fermentation. A selection of yeast strains were used at cool and warm temperatures giving the wine vibrant fresh fruit and a weighty textural element. The fermentation was stopped, slightly off-dry.
