Our World in Red Wine 6 Bottle Case

A top tier mix of red wines from across the world!

Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel Time to Go Bonkers for Bogle! From an iconic wine family - the Bogles are a sixth generation farming family. The first generation in 1870 moved to California from Tennessee and set about trying to grow cherries, peaches, and pears. Sadly, that failed for the Bogles, but better things were to follow. The fourth generation, in 1968, planted 20 aces of grapes and grew for other wineries in the region. In 1979 they built the winery, that still stands today, and produced their own labels. With all this experience & passion the Bogle farmers & winemakers know a thing or two about guaranteeing unrivalled quality for value.

Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel is made from, well, you guessed it, fruit from old vines! These gnarly head-trained and dry farmed old beauties produce low yields of small, concentrated clusters of fruit, makes for incredibly intense and flavoursome wines. Aromas of fresh picked raspberries and white peppercorns reveal on the nose. Followed by saturated mixed berry fruit flavours & tangy cranberries. In the middle palate there’s a hint of savoury herb with raisin & liquorice richness. The traditional notes of juniper lead to a full and ripe finish, while 12 months of aging in American oak barrels wraps the wine in luscious warm spice toneswith a touch of chocolatey vanilla.

Hawkshead Pinot Noir Is a boutique Central Otago winery started by Denis Marshall & his partner Ulrike Kurenback when they bought some land in Gibbston, next to Valli Winery, in 1995, and after a wait, planted vines in 2001. Previously this property has been part of a merino sheep farm called Watiri Station. Initially, plantings were just Pinot Noir, but then Pinot Gris, Riesling and more recently Pinot Blanc were added. Their vision for growing vines with minimal interference to the natural environment meant they were able to create a sustainable, artisan winery coupled with the legendary winemaking skills of Dean Shaw, they were able to deliver vintages of the greatest character.

“Clearly, 2020 was a good vintage for Gibbston if this wine is any indication. Pinot noir with purity, power, and a strong sense of place. Red cherry and berry and fresh herb flavours underpinned by juicy acidity.” 93/100 Bob Campbell MW

Zema Estate Shiraz Zema is a proudly independent winery, forged in Australia but born of a passionate Italian heritage. It is a brand that embodies two of the greatest things about wine – terroir and history. Based in Coonawarra, South Australia, Zema was founded by Demetrio and Francesca Zema in 1982. From very humble beginnings in Calabria Italy, the Zema family worked tirelessly to build the quality and reputation of their wines. They have achieved this through attention to detail – hand pruning, careful fruit selection, meticulous viticulture, passionate winemaking, diligent bottle ageing and a deep respect for the place and provenance of Coonawarra. Zema Estate wines now have 150 acres of vines in three prime Coonawarra locations and although the family deservedly takes great pride in their achievements, they never lost sight of their original philosophies and to create consistent wines that today really are an integral part of the Australian wine landscape. Second generation Nick Zema and the extended family will celebrate the fortieth anniversary of their winery in 2022, a wonderful achievement. It has not always been easy, but they have never faltered in producing quality regional wines which represent excellent value.

“Very deep, dark colour with some age creeping in at the edges. Strong chocolate, mocha and toasty barrel aromas on the bouquet, the palate is full-bodied and rich, with generous extract and chewy but balanced tannins that would melt away with a hearty roast meat dinner”91/100, The Real Review, Huon Hooke.

Paul Jaboulet Aîné Parallele 45 Cotes du Rhone Originally founded by Antoine Jabouletin 1834 with a focus on quality which really established the area as one of the major wine producing regions of the world. The land was passed on to his sons Henri and Paul, who subsequently gave his name to the company – Paul Jaboulet Ainé (Ainé meaning the elder in French). As the business was passed down from generation to generation, they expanded byplanting more vineyards in other appellations along the Rhone Valley. They now have over 120 hectares, producing fine wines from twenty-six other appellations. Also, they produce some of the best Côtes du Rhone wines, with Parellèle 45 well known for over-delivering on price. In 2006, Jean-Jacques Frey bought Paul Jaboulet Aîné. The Frey family have become increasingly important in the French wine industry. Caroline Frey is the winemaker and viticulturist for Paul Jaboulet Aîné. Fast becoming one of the top winemakers in France, she is following biodynamic practices and with the installation of a brand-new gravity flow winery she is producing stunning wines, striving to make them better and better each year.

Taking its name from the 45th parallel which runs just two kms from the cellars of Maison Paul Jaboulet. This is a typical southern Rhone blend of Grenache 55%, Syrah 40%, and mixed grape varietals (Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault) 5%. Deep red cherry and spiced berry notes on the nose. This has a smooth mouthfeel where the soft tannins subtly coat the mouth. There's spice and soft, chewy fruit on the palate. It's balanced and very luscious packing a punch in terms of fruit flavour but doesn't feel heavy on the palate.

Domaine Pothier Colline en flamme Gamay In the shadow of the great appellations of the Loire Valley, Romain Paire and his Domaine des Pothiers are reinventing the wines of the Côte-Roannaise in particular the unique indigenous clone Gamay Saint-Romain. Although the family winery was founded in 1916 in Villemontais, it was, Georges, his father, who started to redevelop his vineyard in the 1970s. As soon as Romain joined his father in 2005, he refurbished the cellar, converted the vineyard to organic farming & biodynamics then planted more vines to reach over ten hectares. He refines the expression of his reds and underlines the identity of Gamay Saint-Romain on granitic soils nestled at an altitude of 500 metres. The Domaine des Pothiers was voted "Discovery of the Year” by La Revue des Vinsde France in 2014.

Domaine des Pothiers La Colline en Flamme”(translates to “the hills are burning”) is harvested manually in order to select the best bunches in the field, and to ensure the grapes arrive intact in the winery. It is vatted in cement tanks, once fermented, the wine is aged for 5 to 8 months in the vats. Domaine des Pothiers La Colline en Flamme is a fresh and fruity red with more savouriness than a typical Beaujolais gamay. But it still reveals a bounty of flavours of blackberry, liquorice & raspberry and also notes of spices, with an ageing potential of around 5 years. This is a fun natural wine that can be drank lightly chilled depending on the foods to be paired with it.

Montalbano Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Somehow Italians seem to do it betterJ This vino bellissimo will not disappoint for many diverse occasions. Coming from FattoriaMont’Albano in Abruzzo which spans 25 acres within a protected game reserve. The three large vineyards produce the highest quality fruit. The Italian wine industry has been on the front foot with organic viticulture much longer than many, and Mauro Braidot at Mont’Albano is a classic case of that, having converted his vineyards in 1985. Sourced from vineyards located in Canzano, Teramo, in the famed Abruzzo region in central Italy, lying to the west of the Adriatic sea.

This excellent Montepulciano has freshness & vibrancy thanks to the wine not seeing any oak until a proportion is aged in second use French oak barrels for softness & complexity. The wine is then blended prior to bottling & released. A lovely medium to full bodied wine withexcellent acidity. It has lifted aromatics boasting ripe cherry, blackberries, blackcurrants, and cloves. The palate shows plush fruit flavours of red & blackberries, a twist of black pepper and a generous mouth feel thanks to a little structure in the wine, & a subtle spicy finish. A lush & juicy wine. Perfectly balanced with supple tannins.
