You can’t go wrong with Giesen! Giesen, as we know it today, began in a small vineyard just outside of Christchurch that was purchased by two brothers who were on a trip here from their native Germany. Their first vintage was in 1984 and ever since then the brand has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the powerhouse it is today. Giesen produces many wines, with grapes taken from vineyards across the country. Their Vineyard Selection range focuses on wines made from around the regions which are crafted into an expressive, ready to drink style. The 2019 Merlot has well balanced acid and soft tannins, notes of cherry and plum as well as vanilla and cinnamon. We think its perfect quaffing in winter, alongside a slow braised cut of beef or freshly made pasta in a rich tomato sauce.
