Church Road TOM Hawke's Bay Syrah 2015

"The Tom series of wines are named after the late Tom McDonald, who pioneered powerful red table wines at a time when the New Zealand wine industry was predominantly built around fortified wines. This dry, full bodied, spicy Syrah would have made him proud. It not only drinks well now, in its youth, but has the potential age and evolve beautifully for 10+ years. History suggests it will become an elegant silky red after that time. It is a showpiece and a collector’s item, offering an insight into what Tom McDonald saw in Hawke’s Bay back in the mid 20th Century when he was making wine." - 4.5 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer

An exceptional quality Hawke's Bay Syrah.

It's a rare, joyous experience to enjoy a wine of this magnitude so don't miss your opportunity to be a part of this extremely limited allocation.

"Tom is our tribute to the late Tom McDonald (1907-1987). A passionate and visionary winemaker who devoted his life to producing outstanding New Zealand wines at the site of the current Church Road Winery. Tom McDonald's highly regarded wines inspired a generation of winemakers and pioneered a quality renaissance in Hawkes Bay winegrowing.

Rich, ripe and fragrant, this wine expresses layers of dark berry and cherry fruit supported by lifted violet perfume, warm exotic spice and notes of dusty cacao, vanilla, smoky charcuterie and a subtle underlying earthiness. On the palate, the wine manages both luxuriousness and elegance with a plushness of texture that is supported by silky tannins, drawing the wine out across the back palate and lending great length to the finish." - Church Road

96/100, Bob Campbell MW "From grapes grown in the Bridge Pa Triangle. Superbly elegant and fragrant syrah with violet, cranberry, plum and a suggestion of mocha among the more prominent flavours. An elegant wine with a silken and ethereal texture. Should develop well but surprisingly approachable now." June 2019
