Bodegas Piqueras High Altitude Garnacha 2018

"100% Garnacha from Bodegas Piqueras, a family owned estate which have been producing wines in Almansa, Castilla La Mancha for the past 100 years. The grapes are planted at high altitudes (approx. 2,500m above sea level!) and on stony soils giving the grapes an intense varietal flavour. Notes of juicy plum, sweet spice and a hint of violet is backed up by chocolate and vanilla. The 2018 would pair well with grilled chorizo off the BBQ, or a hearty beef stew. Drink now." - 18/20, Wine Central Tasting Panel

The ‘High Altitude Garnacha Tintorera’ from Bodegas Piqueras comes from the Almansaregion of southeastern Spain. It is different to Garnacha, and is a rare ‘red-fleshed’ grape variety – the vast majority are clear-fleshed, with the skins providing the colour. It gives ripe red cherries, raspberries, crushed  boysenberries, red plums and a touch of vanilla spice on the nose. Medium-bodied and deep in  colour with well-integrated fine juicy tannins, persistent and soft on the palate with a silky fruit-forward finish.
