Smooth and fruity, this classic “Ripasso” has notes of ripe red and black fruits with undertones of warm brown spices, dried currants, figs, and leather.
The dried fruit flavours come from the Ripasso winemaking process. This is where a fresh new wine is steeped in grape skins leftover from making a different wine. The leftover grape skins are typically from Amarone wines, which are made using dried grapes. These grapes are really concentrated, which is why their figgy flavours come through so strongly during this process. Afterwards, the wine is aged for six months in oak barrel. The result is a wine that has complex fruit flavours but still manages to be vibrant and light on its feet.
