Alceño 12 Meses DO Jumilla Monastrell 2016

"Monastrell is a heat loving grape so Jumilla in central southern Spain works wonders for this late ripening grape, which needs hot days and plenty of them in order to fully ripen. When it does gain full ripeness, Monastrell makes big, bold, deliciously juicy and dry red wines. This one has freshness and vibrancy to burn and, even at 14.5% alcohol, it’s a beautifully balanced red. Its smooth tannins mean it will also taste good lightly chilled on a hot day." - 4 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer (2014 vintage)

"A big, ripe, robust red wine that still has freshness as the variety is suited to hot climates, great drinkability. Black plums, chocolate, cinnamon and cedar flavours with rustic, firm, chewy tannins, giving balance to the ripe fruits. This wine still has freshness because the variety is suited to hot climates." - Lynnette Hudson, Experienced Winemaker and Advisor (2014 vintage)

A powerful performance from the Monastrell grape in this terrific value Spanish red.

The Jumilla region produces premium wines packed with flavour and the Alceño is no exception. Ripe black fruits and dark plums meet earthy florals, warm anise and smoky vanilla spice flavours on the palate. Big, firm tannins bind the body and enable it to stand up against game and other rich, slightly spicy foods.
