Grandeza Gran Tradición 5 Años 2012

"Spain is king when it comes to top tasting, great value reds that over deliver big time. This wine stands out head and shoulders above so many low priced reds, thanks to being a classic twist of modern and traditional Spanish flavours with its deep ruby colour, dry flavours and pronounced delicious spice and ripe fruit taste." - 4/5 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer

"Mature Spaniard, ready to go! Tempranillo, as synonymous to Spain as paella and the running of the bulls, is grown throughout the world from Australia to Portugal, but its spiritual home is in Rioja, Central Spain. The grapes were harvested and fermented in the traditional style, before the wine was aged for 5 years in bottle prior to its release. Complex flavours of dried herbs and ripe red fruits complex tertiary aromas like truffle and crushed black olives. Its medium bodied with grippy tannins and a mouth-watering finish - if you leave it to breathe before drinking, you’ll be suitably rewarded. Drink now and into winter next year." - 17/20, Wine Central Tasting Panel

Grapes from old vines grown on sun-drenched plains make this 100% Tempranillo ooze flavour, complexity and aromatics. It's aged for five years before release and this no doubt rounds of all the flavours into a silky smooth, medium weighted body. A BBQ friendly Spanish red or one to savour on its own!

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review Bottle-aged red made from old vines and held in barrel and bottle for five years before release. Made from undisclosed varieties (or variety) but I’d guess that Garnacha plays a dominant part. A fine-boned red with violet, red berry and chalky-mineral characters supported by very fine, chalky tannins. Oct 2019.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit Wonderfully matured and beautifully complex, the wine shows spiced plum, dried cherry, game, tapenade, dark mushroom and toasted almond characters. The palate is silky and rounded, delivering sweet berry flavours together with rich savoury notes, elegantly framed by polished tannins. At its best: now to 2020. Aug 2018.

Raymond Chan Garnet-hued ruby colour with some depth, lighter edged with a little bricking.  The nose is softly full and gently voluminous with aromas of savoury dark-red berry fruits harmoniously melded with a layering of nuts, earth and secondary oxidative development lending mellowness.  This builds in intensity with aeration.  Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly full with expansive layered flavours of soft red berry fruit melded with dried herbs and earth lending savoury interest, plus a little oxidative secondary development.  The fruit is supported by light, grainy tannins providing plenty of fine-textured grip, and the wine is carried by the structure to a soft, mouthfilling finish.  This is a soft, textured, mouthfilling Tempranillo with sweet and savoury dark-red berry fruit with dried herb and earthy flavours.  Match with casseroles and slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 3 years.  Tempranillo fruit from central Spain, vines 10-30 y.o., fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 5 years before release.  Winemakers: Javier Murua and Sara Ugarte. Nov 2018.
