Vavasour Awatere Valley Chardonnay 2015

Complex and elegant, the 2015 Chardonnay delivers lovely citrus, nectarine and apricot notes balanced by toasty French oak. The palate is rich and expressive with the stony minerality found in all of Vavasour's
white wines.

The fruit for the 2015 Chardonnay is composed of estate fruit from Vavasour's Home Vineyard, as well as a premiere grower vineyard in the Awatere Valley. After handpicking, the fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barriques (30% new) using indigenous yeast. Vavasour Chardonnay is made from a mix of Clone 95 (for elegance) and Mendoza (for richness). The wine was aged in oak for eleven months with weekly lees stirring to enhance the texture and flavour.

SAM KIM WINE ORBIT: 5 Stars & 93 Points This is elegant and powerful at the same time. The delicately fragrant bouquet shows white nectarine, rock melon, lemon pith and oatmeal characters with hints of cedar and vanilla. It is richly fruited and generously weighted on the palate, and delivers excellent fruit intensity backed by brilliantly pitched acidity providing freshness and structure. Very stylish. At its best: now to 2020.

WINESTATE MAGAZINE - 4 Stars Rich, generous, toasty, mealy wine with a freshly scented bouquet and plenty of oak in evidence. Already very open and expressive.
